First Impressions: Roland Streidt

Body:

As a recruiter at CompHealth permanent placement in Norwalk, Conn., Roland Streidt is grateful for the opportunity he has to touch lives every day. Whether it's placing a doctor where he or she can save lives or helping spread the culture of support and camaraderie here at CHG, Roland loves being able to do what he can to make a difference.

What do you do at CHG and what do you like about your job?

I am a permanent placement recruiter with the OB/GYN team. I like knowing that I am adding value and making a difference in people’s lives. For example, I placed a doctor and now she is delivering babies, which is a major part of life, so I feel like what I do brings a lot of value to the lives of others and helps the greater good. I enjoy the people, the teamwork and the camaraderie. I enjoy the continual training and the constant support I get from my teammates and the leaders. I love that that the company is all about Putting People First. This applies to our customers, but also to our team members and everyone around us. The support here is unbelievable; everyone is here to help you and that makes this a collegial working environment where you want to go the extra mile.

When did you come to CHG?

Two months ago.

How did you hear about CHG and what made you want to apply?

I was laid off in January, but I had been looking for something else anyway. I was feeling like a number, so I researched top companies in physician recruiting so that I could use my sales abilities within the healthcare industry. I heard some great things about CHG being one of the top 10 companies to work for and that it had a reputation of being a company where people really wanted to come to work. It turned out a job was available, so I applied and received a call.

Where were you working before you came to CHG?

I was a pharmaceutical sales professional at Sanofi, a pharmaceutical company. I would go to doctors’ offices and promote different medicines.

How has working at CHG compared to your other working experience?

I come from much larger companies where I was more of a number, but at CHG, I really feel like I matter. CHG really allows you the freedom to let your individual personality come out. There is more of an opportunity to be entrepreneurial and creative, which really is more effective, especially when you’re dealing with a customer. Unlike my other position, where I felt very replaceable, I feel like I’m a part of the energy and a part of the culture. The culture here is really what fosters productivity in a more efficient way. It’s just a conducive environment and allows you to be the best that you can be, and that is what makes this company unique. The training, the people, the goals for the future, the effort to grow makes it very unique. You just matter here. There is a constant vibe that your efforts are rewarded and that you have a chance to define your own future at CHG.

What can you tell me about your first day?

There was lots of support, lots of energy, and everybody came over to meet me. There was this immediate chemistry; everybody was very personable and able to be themselves. I was blown away about how open people were. People would come over to me with pointers and tips about how to do a better a job. From day one, it was a conducive working environment filled with tons of support.

What has been your most memorable experience so far?

I had just finished training when suddenly my whole team came and grabbed my rolling chair and rolled me to the part of the office where I would be working. It made me feel really good to be there and really made me feel like a part of the team.

Do you have any advice for new or potential CHG employees?

Ask all the questions. Be as curious as possible and try to meet as many people as you can. Be like a sponge: Absorb all of the support that is extended to you. You can learn something new every day, so keep an open mind. Come in with a blank slate and take in as much as you can. And remember that what you put in is what you get out of it.

We Are Family: Maryam and Katerina

Body:

CHG is sometimes referred to as a "big, happy family." For some employees, that phrase rings very true -- they work each day with family, whether it be a close-knit team, a great group of co-workers, carpool buddies or real-life siblings, parents, sons and daughters. Get to know our CHG families in this series of stories, We Are Family!

When Katerina (Katty) Zlochevsky met Maryam Pedraza in a Zumba class she was teaching, she didn’t expect to land a job at CompHealth locum tenens in Salt Lake City – but that’s just what happened.

“I have been an instructor for almost three years now, and we instantly connected and have been close ever since! Maryam had been trying to get me to apply to CHG for a while, and boy am I glad I finally did,” Katty, an associate recruiter on the family practice team, shares.

Katty, left, and Maryam often attend Zumba classes together.

Maryam, CompHealth locum tenens engagement/communication coordinator, says she loved Katty’s classes, got to know her and became convinced that she needed to work at CHG.

“She is like a younger sister I never had, and I was so impressed with her drive and work ethic. I knew she would have a phenomenal career here,” Maryam expresses. “And beyond those great characteristics, she is an exceptional dancer! Recently, we got to make a spoof video together to share with the division.”

Though Zumba is a shared passion – Maryam just became certified as an instructor and now teaches weekly classes in the Salt Lake office – it’s not the only thing Katty and Maryam have in common.

“From lunch dates to dance videos to bringing each other up to speed on the hottest new Latin songs, we learn from each other all the time,” Katty says. “We have a weekly ritual, it seems, to visit each other at our cubicles and make sure we are in check. It is so great to have someone like Maryam here because she gives me advice and brings a fresh perspective to everything.”

Maryam, who joined the company two years ago, says she likes CHG’s culture and appreciates that everyone is encouraged to thrive and brings something special to work.

“I think Katty and I are a great example of loving your work and working with people you love. I would never advocate a company I wasn’t passionate about, and I certainly would never recommend someone unless they were a professional,” Maryam shares. “So it’s a gift that keeps on giving. When you love your company, you want the world to know it!”

Katty and Maryam do let others know about their passion for work, too. Maryam says that they represent CHG by both being “loud and fun,” while Katty shares her appreciation for Maryam’s guidance at work.

“I absolutely love the culture and feeling I get when I step into the office. The people here are amazing,” Katty says. “Not only did Maryam refer me to this job, but she has given me great advice on how to be successful and make the most out of my career here. She truly is like my big sister and is so well-respected.”

And Maryam says that the culture she and Katty enjoy at CHG encompasses life outside of work, too.

“We embody [CHG’s core value of] Putting People First. We always aim to make a difference in the lives of our clients and providers and our colleagues, and this just extends beyond that – to our personal lives,” Maryam expresses. “We put the needs of our friends and families first, because we want them to share the same quality of life as we experience. We are also there for each other when we are having a rough day, and having a friend at work is priceless.”

Acrobatic Arachnids: CompHealth allied health staffing learns the power of positivity

Body:

The CompHealth allied health staffing division in Salt Lake City, Utah, proved that they are more than a match for any sticky situation – spider webs included.

On May 10, the team headed out to the park for a voluntary training on keeping a positive attitude.

“Rather than go down the road of the traditional classroom training, we decided to see how people would react when we created a challenging situation and then affected the general attitude with negativity,” says Jared Southard, a senior training and development specialist.

Jared and his team challenged participants to pass each person on the team through a “spider web,” in less than 30 minutes. The catch, however, was that each hole in the web could only be used once until every hole had been used. Additionally, if any part of their bodies touched the web while they were passing through, they had to go back and choose a team member to sit out for a short period of time.

Throughout the challenge, Brad Hopkin, manager of operations at CompHealth allied health staffing, purposefully approached the situation with a negative attitude while facilitators Jared and Aaron Smith, a senior training and development specialist at CHG in Salt Lake City, Utah, did their best to bring morale down, telling the team that they didn’t expect them to finish such an impossible task.

“It was interesting to see how the negativity spread,” Brad says. “People became frustrated and nitpicky, and we failed as a team.”

Whenever any team member was caught complaining, they would be temporarily pulled out of the game, making it that much harder for their team to complete the task.

“After failing, we sat down and talked about our attitudes, both those of the negative plants and those of the players,” Brad says. “We were asked to do it again with a focus on positivity. As we did so, everyone was happier, we had more fun and people and the facilitators were more lenient with mistakes.”

Although they were unable to finish the first round, Jared says that once the team began focusing on staying positive, their success sky rocketed.

“With these lessons in mind, the team then set a goal for completing the web in a shorter time while being aware of their attitudes,” he says. “The team finished the second round in less than ten minutes.”

Although he was skeptical at first about the training activity, Brad says that it was the most engaging and useful training he’s participated in.

“The demonstration showed the effects of attitude, both positive and negative, and stressed the importance of keeping a positive attitude and the successes that can bring,” he says. “Our corporate training folks did a great job!”

Check out more pictures from the activity in the photo album!

My CHG Story: Mikayla Byington

Body:

From playing underneath a desk to working at one, Mikayla Byington, an administrative assistant at CompHealth locum tenens in Salt Lake City, Utah, has grown up with CHG.

As a little girl, Mikayla would sometimes come into the office with her mother, then a sales representative, and play beneath a desk while her mother finished working. Even as a young girl, Mikayla grew to appreciate the culture and people at CHG.

Today, Mikayla is still with CHG, but has traded in her toys and coloring books for a permanent position.

“I like that I have the opportunity for exposure across our division and all of CHG,” Mikayla says. “My position allows me to work with many different people and roles, and my team handles many different kinds of projects for the division. Every day, my tasks change. I love the variety and spontaneity.”

Mikayla and her mother, Melissa Byington, president of CompHealth locum tenens, were recently featured in a press release discussing CHG’s unique culture and support of female professionals, including working mothers.

Read about how CHG has been such an important part of Mikayla’s life below!

For as long as I can remember, my mom has worked for CHG. When I was little and would get sick, she would bring me into the office and I would sit under her desk while she finished the day. Once I got older and started working, I again came into the office. But this time, instead of being under the desk, I was working at one.

CHG has always been a part of my life. It started out as a part-time summer job. I worked on data audits with the business resource team and have loved the company from the beginning. The culture here is truly wonderful. Once I graduated from high school, I wanted to make CHG my permanent job. That’s exactly what happened. I am now a permanent part of the business resource team.

As for working close to my mom, it’s great! I'm allowed to be my own person and work outside of the shadow of my mom, but I get to see her all the time. She is my role model and I’m glad that I get to see her succeed. We regularly go to lunch together and get to enjoy that mother-daughter bonding time. I love and respect her for all the hard work she does. She inspires me to work harder.
