CHG is sometimes referred to as a "big, happy family." For some employees, however, that phrase rings very true -- they work each day with their family, whether it be a spouse, sibling, son, daughter, mother or father. Get to know our real-life CHG families in this series of weekly stories, We Are Family!
We Are Family: Mom and Me
Mother-daughter duo Barb Shillingford and Sarah Ehin have always been close, Sarah says, but now that they're working "under the same roof" in the Salt Lake office, they've grown closer.
"We get to see each other every day and even sometimes manage a lunch date," Sarah, payroll representative for the CompHealth locum tenens payroll team, shares. "My mom always spoke so highly of CHG and it's obvious to see now what she was talking about all of these years."
Barb, who has worked as a legal assistant at CHG for four years, referred Sarah to the company 10 months ago.
"Sarah was about two weeks away from graduating from the University of Utah and was considering a job in the admissions office on campus," Barb recalls. "However, I knew her personality would fit in so well here at CHG, and I encouraged her to apply online and to see what would happen."
Though Sarah was hesitant to apply because she wasn't sure what job she wanted to pursue after graduation, she came to the office for an interview.
"After meeting with Tracy Horsley [senior manager of CompHealth locum tenens licensing and housing], I was hooked. I graduated from the U on a Friday and started here the following Monday," Sarah expresses.
Barb and Sarah both enjoy the people they work with in their different departments at CHG.
"I can't imagine working someplace where you don't like who you spend so much time with! Dan [Thomson, vice president of general counsel] is great to work for and allows me a lot of flexibility," Barb shares. "I learn something new every day as a paralegal, and my job has really expanded and gotten much more interesting over the past four years. I think I have the most interesting job in this company! The bonus is that my daughter is so happy working here, and every parent wants their kids to be happy."
Sarah, who got married just five months ago, has enjoyed the work/life balance as a newlywed and her leaders' efforts to make sure she and her team have fun at work.
"CHG has been such a great environment to be a part of," Sarah expresses. "The PTO is really generous, the benefits are great and for my first real job, this is pretty amazing."
Sarah is also grateful for her team's support at a difficult time in her life: Two months after their wedding in May, her new husband moved to Arizona to complete his college semester.
"Not only have my managers, Tracy and Julie, been extremely empathetic with my situation, but the entire LT payroll team has been nothing but supportive, and they have made work a great place to come to every day," Sarah shares. "Their positive and fun attitudes keep me occupied and make the days pass quickly."
Barb says she's happy to know that her daughter waorks for a great team and experiences and positive and fun culture.
"I love seeing Sarah every day and seeing her grow, and I know the sky's the limit for her here at CHG," Barb shares.
Sarah is quick to compliment Barb, too.
"My mom has always been a great example in my life and has always wanted the best for me," Sarah says. "I know that with CHG I have the opportunity to have a long and successful career."
