We Are Family: Let's Get Together

10/12/2011 5:46 PM

CHG is sometimes referred to as a "big, happy family." For some employees, however, that phrase rings very true -- they work each day with their family, whether it be a spouse, sibling, son, daughter, mother or father. Get to know our real-life CHG families in this series of weekly stories, We Are Family!

We Are Family: Let's Get Together

CHG has truly become the "family business" for Cortney, Leia, Whitney and Brian Kesler -- all siblings who work together at the CompHealth locum tenens division in the Salt Lake office.

It all started when Cortney joined CHG in 2006 and referred Whitney two years later. Though all of the sisters look alike, Cortney, assignment coordinator for the CompHealth locum tenens government services team, was unprepared for the reactions they would receive from co-workers.

"When Whitney [who uses a wheelchair] first started, it was a field day," Cortney recalls. "I remember once I was walking right next to her, and this guy that I had trained the week before stopped and in a voice of concern said, 'Oh my gosh, what happened?' Then he looked at me, then at Whitney and then walked away."

Of course, work wouldn't be as fun with just one sister to hang out with, so Leia joined the company shortly after Whitney did. Like Cortney and Whitney, Leia meets people who do double-takes when they see her -- and she likes to have a little fun with them, too.

"I have had a few people ask if I change my outfit throughout the day. I’ve also had people ask if I have sisters that work here," Leia, recruiter for the CompHealth locum tenens cardiothoracic/vascular/neurosurgery team, shares. "My response? 'No, why? Is there someone here that looks like me?'"

Finally, Brian joined CHG a month ago as an assignment coordinator on the CompHealth locum tenens general surgery team. Though co-workers don't confuse him with his sisters, Brian enjoys being part of the fun.

"I like having family support at work but also being able to share with co-workers how my sisters really are outside the workplace," Brian expresses.

The Keslers all enjoy CHG's Putting People First culture and like having family to hang out with and give support during the work day.

"It’s fun to see [my family] and be able to talk about things that went on throughout the day and have them understand the processes and the business," Whitney, administrative manager for the CompHealth locum tenens primary care team, says.

And with eight other Kesler siblings in the family, Cortney, Whitney, Leia and Brian may continue to spread the CHG love.

"I feel that CHG really cares about its employees," Leia expresses. "It must be a good place -- there are four of us working here from the same family!"
