We Are Family: The Right Turn

10/19/2011 5:32 PM

CHG is sometimes referred to as a "big, happy family." For some employees, however, that phrase rings very true -- they work each day with their family, whether it be a spouse, sibling, son, daughter, mother or father. Get to know our real-life CHG families in this series of weekly stories, We Are Family!

We Are Family: The Right Turn

Erik Turner says it was luck that brought him to Weatherby Healthcare nine years ago after leaving the IT staffing industry, but it was hardly luck that his wife, Misty, joined RN Network [later moving to Weatherby Healthcare] two years later due to her experience in healthcare staffing.

"I am sure most people do not have the chance to actually help their wives to be successful when joining their company," Erik, a senior consultant for the surgery subspecialties team, shares. "That was one of the best things for me -- mainly because it gave me the opportunity to talk with her in an environment where she had to listen!"

Misty, now a consultant for Weatherby Healthcare's hospitalist division, has enjoyed working with Erik at CHG as well.

"Every day before I arrive at the office, I thank my lucky stars Erik and I are in such a unique position to be a part of something so much larger than our four walls," Misty expresses. "The culture is carefully chosen, and it shows in every team within Weatherby Healthcare."

As Erik and Misty raise their daughter, Isabella, they appreciate the friendships they have cultivated at work and the time they can have together as a family.

"Although there is a performance-driven culture at Weatherby Healthcare, we still understand the importance of patient care and the personal lives of each of our employees," Erik says. "We have also built a family network within Weatherby Healthcare and have become close to many of our colleagues. In fact, we spend a large amount of time with them outside of work and raise our children together."

Erik notes that he recently began coaching a soccer team with Weatherby Healthcare employee Kim Reischel, and he and Misty enjoy watching Isabella and several other "Weatherby kids" play together.

"This is the first time any of our children have played competitive sports, and it has been a real treat. We celebrate birthdays together, take trips together and enjoy regular weekend gatherings," Erik shares. "As challenging as our careers can be, this is wonderful way for all of us to show support outside of the office and exercise the 'work hard, play hard' mentality. All told, there are about 10 Weatherby children who are growing up together."

When they're not spending time with friends outside of Weatherby, Erik and Misty like the encouragement they feel from each other at work.

"The best part about working with family at CHG is the understanding we both have of the challenges each of our jobs bring," Misty says. "We are able to support each other and celebrate our successes with a complete understanding of how difficult those successes are to come by at times."

Family isn't determined by bloodline alone, though, as Misty and Erik will tell you.

"Our colleagues are so talented and comical and are truly our chosen family here in South Florida," Misty says. "You couple those things together, and who could want anything more out of their career?"
