We Are Family: Tea for Two

11/30/2011 10:07 AM

CHG is sometimes referred to as a "big, happy family." For some employees, however, that phrase rings very true -- they work each day with their family, whether it be a spouse, sibling, son, daughter, mother or father. Get to know our real-life CHG families in this series of weekly stories, We Are Family!

We Are Family: Tea for Two

Most people probably wouldn't credit a hibachi steakhouse with landing them new jobs, but that's just what happened to Luke and Kim Reischel, who both work at Weatherby Healthcare in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

"When Kim and I first relocated to Florida from Raleigh, N.C., eight years ago, we were seated at a table [in a hibachi steakhouse] with about six or seven women from CHG. In conversation with them, it turned out that they were having a going-away party for one of their co-workers," Luke recalls. "When inquiring what they did for a living, it was a coincidence that Kim had worked in a similar field in the past. We asked if they were hiring and they were. She sent her resume, and she got hired. I applied three years later."

Luke, a senior consultant in the hospitalist division, enjoys the team atmosphere at CHG.

"I like that the company basically gives you the keys to start your own business with a lot of resources and supportive Business Partners to be successful," he expresses. "I like that I have a job that I wake up in the morning and say, What do I get to do today? instead of saying, What do I have to do?"

Though she and Luke rarely get the chance to see or speak to each other throughout the work day, as they work on different teams, Kim, senior sales consultant for the pediatrics team, values the other people she meets constantly at her job.

"I love the opportunity to build new relationships on a daily basis, not only with clients and providers, but within our organization," Kim shares.

Despite their different schedules, Luke says there are benefits to working at CHG with his wife.

"When people who do not work for CHG find out that both Kim and I both work at the same place, they think we are crazy," Luke says. “The best part is that Kim and I can relate to one another’s careers. We can share ideas, plans and frustrations and help strategize a better venue to achieve the end result we want. We can be a soundboard with an educated knowledge of the industry and offer opinions that the other can use or springboard off from."

Kim and Luke note that they are also fortunate to work with Luke's aunt and cousin at Weatherby Healthcare and have close relationships with other couples they work with and their families, including Erik "Captain Awesome" and "Crazy Aunt" Misty Turner, whose own We Are Family story was recently published.

"Having people that we interact with on a daily basis that are going through the same chapter of their life as we are is wonderful," Luke expresses. "We are very fortunate to be able to share our lives and the lives of our two little monsters with them."
