The CHG Story

We take great pride in having been industry leaders since 1979, the year we invented the locum tenens industry. Our story began when Therus C. Kolff, MD, developed the concept of locum tenens, or traveling physicians, as a way to deliver medical care to rural areas of the western United States. The success of this effort spurred Dr. Kolff to establish the nation’s first locum tenens staffing company, CompHealth, in Salt Lake City, Utah.

While the CompHealth brand name still endures, its parent company has grown into CHG Healthcare Services, with a suite of respected healthcare staffing brands including CompHealth, Weatherby Healthcare, RNnetwork, Foundation Medical Staffing and Global Medical Staffing. Collectively, the CHG family of companies is one of the largest providers of healthcare staffing in the country. We’re not only the leading supplier of locum tenens but also have broadened our services to include both temporary and permanent placement of physicians, nurses and allied health professionals.

Over three decades later, CHG is still headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah, and employs over 2,000 people in seven offices located around the U.S. We do business in all 50 states and have the broadest offering of healthcare professionals in the industry.
